SHE: Has a change of plans

Friday, September 8, 2017

Hey Y'all,

This weather has been pretty crazy!  And truthfully,
it has us a little concerned about our
Holiday Open House scheduled for
Tuesday night, 9/12/17.

According to recent reports, we are in line to receive a
fair amount of rain and stormy weather.

We want all of you to be safe, so sadly we are postponing our
Holiday Open House.
We plan to reschedule once we all have a chance to check our planners.
We will send out info this weekend with new date.

Stay safe friends!!

SHE: Holiday Open House

Monday, September 4, 2017

Hey Friends,

We mentioned a few weeks ago that although we had been a little MIA, we were indeed still working hard to grow SHE Degree to the next level.  Well, we are ready to share that we are venturing into the online / retail sales world.  We hope to carry an assortment of seasonal décor, personal and home items, gifts and baby items.  You will be able to order at an event or straight from our website.

(You all do know that we have 2 babies on the way, right?  Courtney is having a little girl in December and Brittney is having a little boy in January.  I told you it’s been crazy busy for all of us this summer. More on that in the blog soon).

To kick this new venture off, The SHE Degree ladies are hosting a holiday open house next week, Tuesday, September 12th from 6-8pm.

We have some home décor items as well as seasonal holiday (Fall, Halloween & Christmas) items and hostess gifts.  Every SHE loves to shop and decorate her nest.  Now we want to help you do that too!

We have a few select items that we will be presenting at the event and they will be available to purchase or order.  Your input is important to us.  We want to know what you think of our items & what other type items you would like to see available.

Please plan to stop by and say hello and see what we have been up to.

Light snacks will be provided.  And of course there will be a door prize!

So invite a friend or 2 and enjoy a little girl time.

For address and to RSVP please send a text to

Lisa (423)774-0210 or Amy (423)240-3240

A few fall events are planned too. So be sure to check the blog for details.  We are so enjoying this road together. It has been such a blessing to all of us.  We can only hope you continue to travel it with us.

Xoxo,
The ladies of SHE Degree

Butterfly Festival

Thursday, August 31, 2017

I love this photo of Katie Beth!  She and Madison would fill the house up with their laughter and shenanigans.  To know her was to love her instantly!  I am so proud to announce SheDegree will have a booth at the Butterfly Festival Saturday.

The first annual Butterfly Festival is being planned for Saturday, Sept. 2 (2-6 p.m.) at Heritage High School in Ringgold, GA.

This is an outdoor, family-friendly fund raising event for the Katie Beth Carter Memorial Scholarship fund that awards annual scholarships to students at Heritage High School and Jacksonville State University. This event is being organized by friends & family of the Carter family. They hope to make this an annual event on Labor Day weekend, to commemorate the loss of Katie Beth in a tragic car accident on her way back to Jacksonville State on Labor Day 2016.

There will be lots of fun for the entire family, featuring live entertainment (music/dance), inflatables, carnival games, face painting, magician, art/craft vendors, food vendors, butterfly/balloon release, and more!

The gate fee is $10/person ($5 for under 3) with a $50 maximum per family. All proceeds will be deposited into the KBC scholarship fund.

I hope to see you all there.  We have some incredible items we want to show you.  From linen lined baskets to Fall and Halloween decorations that you will just have to have.  Please come out Saturday and visit with us while you donate to the scholarship fund.  We are going to have a blast!!

See you there,
Lisa B and all the SHE's

SHE: Went to the Beach

Saturday, August 12, 2017

Hey Y'all,

Summer is coming to an end. Our area schools started back this week. Boo! It always seems to get here too soon!! Don't you think so?   I was never one of the mommas that was happy to see it end.

Last week I went on to the beach with my girl and sweet son in law. Traveling with adult children was awesome!  The weather was great, the food so yummy and the company was the best. No one had to be entertained and no one needed a nap (although naps were taken).
We really enjoyed just being still and relaxing.  Andrew set our area up on the beach early each morning and we enjoyed it all day. Going up for lunch or a quick cool off.

My favorite place to be at the beach is in my sand chair at the edge of the water with a book.  Our water was a little rougher than usual and the waters really washed up on the shores. Even flipping my chair around and dousing my Kindle with a little water and sand. But that is the risk you take sitting that close to the waves.  And to me, it was perfect. It always seemed to rush forward when I was least expecting it, but I was so appreciative of the relief the cool water provided.

Did you catch that I even got to read? 3 books! A while back I asked for some suggestions for my trip. There were so many to choose from.  I like an easy entertaining read, nothing to deep or heavy at the beach.  I read these:

Each was a very entertaining and quick read. With laughs and a few happy tears. If it doesn't grab my attention, I am likely to not finish it.  Have you read them?  I recommend them all. Sweet stories with happy endings.

I am thankful to be home but so enjoyed our trip! Here are a few tips to share for your next beach trip...
Baby powder really does work wonderfully to get the sand off of you.
Put your sunscreen on before you put on your swimsuit, less likely to miss spots.
Unplug- we all need to do this more! I checked my phone at lunch and around dinner when I knew my Hubby would be calling me. (He doesn't care much for traveling ~ we may get him there next year). The rest of the day was spent listening to the ocean.
Bring a few options for reading or puzzles.
Pack less... you will never wear all the items you pack and it definitely helps
with carrying your luggage in/ out and laundry when you return home.

Hope you have had a fun summer! The weather should cooperate a little while
longer, but once school starts... I say bring on FALL.

xoxo,
Amy

Where is SHE?

Monday, July 24, 2017

Hey Y'all,

How has your summer been going?  Ours has been great! The SHE's are busy!!  I apologize if we have been a little MIA lately. We have so many new plans in the works along with some expansion within our SHE Degree network.  We will have a new website that we will be debuting in the next few weeks. It should be a little more user friendly and have some new features we know you will enjoy!!

We have updated our contact info too.  You can still reach each of us at our SHEdegree@gmail.com email address, but if you prefer to contact one of us specifically with a question or comment you can reach us at the following:

Amy@shedegree.com

You may have heard we chose to not host a market this year. While we were very sad, we were not able to commit the time and attention an exceptional market requires.  With that being said, we love a fun market!  So we will probably be attending a few smaller events in your neighborhood this fall.  Please stop by and chat with us if you see us at an event. Over the next few months, we will begin sharing with you what we have been working on.  We think you will like it!!

We hope you understand and that you will make plans to join us at our next market. Because we fully anticipate hosting an awesome event next summer. Vendors, be watching for early details.

We appreciate your continued support of the SHE Degree family.
Now, enjoy the rest of your summer break!!

xoxo,
Amy

Happy Anniversary!

This picture is from the night we met.  He asked me to marry him that very night.  We did not get married that night, however.  We waited a few months and said our " I dos" on June 23rd.  Those crazy kids had no idea all the things that would unfold during the next:
27 Years
324 months
9,855 days
236,520 hours
14,191,200 minutes!

We have had 4 children, 1 son-in-law and a few dogs and several goldfish, all that to say we have spent a lot of our "hours" cleaning up messes.  We have changed endless diapers, wiped tears, laughed until we cried and cried until we laughed.  We have spent our days playing with kids, watching them accomplish all kinds of things, and even seeing one of them get married.  We have spent some of our hours at the funeral home paying our respects to friends and love ones.  We have also buried parents and grandparents.  Those hours we had to carry each other.  We have taken our kids to about 30 states and several countries.  The adventures from those trips will be enjoyed forever!  Every single minute, hour and day!

Thinking about all the fun we have had over the years...and the hard days made me think of all the newlyweds.  The we are about to get married ones and the we have been married for a couple of year ones.    I wanted to pass on a little advice to help you along.  Honestly, for me too because we can always be learning.

  • He cannot read your mind.
You can huff and puff all you want.  I can  promise you he will not get it.  He is not wired like you.  Just tell him what the problem is and say it nicely.  Someday he will have to tell you something you may not like and a nice tone helps.
  • Sometimes he doesn't think about what he just said!
We lived out of town the first few years.  My husband would say the dumbest things.  Things like-are you wearing that?  In the wrong tone.  At first I would get my feelings hurt.  Then I started helping a guy out.  I would say, Wrong answer.  Would you like to try again?  Of course he is a man and I had to help him out the first time.   I said to him, "Instead of saying are you going to wear that and using that tone, which instantly hurts my feelings.  How about you saying, You are wearing a dress?  I didn't know this thing was so dressy.  I was going to wear shorts."  He liked me saying wrong answer and it solved a lot of hurt feelings on my part.  Even now, occasionally I will say, Wrong answer.
  • We are a united front.
Once the kiddos came along we decided we would make all decisions together and stick to it.  Example, Can I go to Sally's?  While harmless we started early and still stick to it.  There is no well, mom said its ok with her....  There is no playing the parents.  The question they should always ask is do either of you mind if I go to Sally's house?  Or even Mom, can I go to Sally's and do I need to ask Dad too?  I usually make those decisions day to day.  Sally's house is easy, questions like can I go to Six Flags with friends we need to discuss as a couple.
  • We can't change the others punishments!!
This is such a hard one, but it has really worked for us and our children.  There will be times when you must punish your child.  Perhaps you want to use time out or take away things or even spank.  Those things you have to decide early and both be on board.  But, we take it one step further.  I can't change his punishments and he can't change mine.  Now, there have been times one of us went a little crazy.  Maybe it was a grounding that was too long or a device taken away too long.  We can discuss in private and asked the other to change a punishment.  Then whoever punished the child can go back to them and change it.  You know the old, I thought about it and decided perhaps I overacted.  I am going to just ground for 1 week.    (This also stops all the -Mom, can you talk to Dad....or vice versa.  They know we don't do that!)
  • Go on dates and weekends!
You need to continue to date your spouse.  Go out to eat.  Go for a walk, anything.  Just continue to go out together without kids and without other people.  Just the two of you!  And go away for the weekend any chance you get! I remember when we were first married we saw this older couple dining at a table next to us.  They never spoke to each other and this was before cell phones.  It made me so sad.  I said, I never want that to be us!!  So, we not only go out. We talk.  It's ok if you have to make them put down the phones.  Put down yours.  Talk!!

These are the things we have used to help us stay on track all these years.  We added huge doses of trust and love at first sight!!  Don't get me wrong.  We get aggravated at each other.  We are both stubborn to a fault.  We both probably wanted to throw the towel in several times.  But, we have a deal...whoever leaves first had to take all the kids.  So, we are in it forever.  Stubborn pays off sometimes.  I would love to hear how you and yours make it work.  What are ways you keep your marriage on the right track?  Do you do little things for each other?  Little things like bringing coffee to each other?

Here is a current picture of us on one of our weekends away together.

Life is made better when you walk it together!

Have a Great Day!
Lisa B
