SHE Sets A Table

Hey y'all! So whether you have the party gene or not, chances are you're going to need to set a table at some point in your life. Obviously, you're going to want to make sure you do it right!

Study this picture above and you'll be good to go! This is considered an informal place setting. A formal place setting would have a bread plate, white and red wine glasses, dessert spoon, cake knife, and cup and saucer. You don't see this much anymore so I'm sticking with the informal setting.

This post is going to be short because you can see it all in the picture above!

Tips and Tricks

1. If you have a salad plate and/or bowl, you'll want to put those on top of your dinner plate. You can then either place the napkin in the bowl or under the knife and spoons.

2. Make sure the blade of the knife is facing the plate like in the picture. 

3. Mix it up with pretty chargers under your plate or a placemat!

Sweet Potato Casserole

I love Thanksgiving!!!  It is by far my favorite holiday. I love all the wonderful food that makes this day the greatest.   My table would not be complete without this southern staple!  Sweet Potato Casserole is a much needed dish.  Everyone needs to have a tried and true version in their recipie book. 

Sweet potatoes are kind of a pain to peel.  A sweet friend of mine made my life easier when she said, boil the potatoes with the skins on them.  Then the skins just slide off. This has made making this dish a breeze.  

Now this year we are going to take Thanksgiving to the beach.   So personally, I am making the base of the sweet potato mixture and putting it in a container and then the topping in another container.  I will put them in a serving dish at the beach and bake.  I usually make this two to three days before Thanksgiving. Doing the prep work I can each day makes the actual meal day easier.  

Sweet Potato Casserole

5 sweet potatoes (cooked and peeled)

1/2 stick of butter

1 cup of sugar

1 teaspoon of vanilla

2 eggs

1/2 cup milk

Place all the above ingredients in mixer and mix well.  Place in a casserole dish. 

Make topping.

Topping

1/2 stick butter, melted

1/3 cup flour

1 cup brown sugar

1 cup chopped pecans

Crumble topping on top of sweet potato mixture.

Bake at 350 degrees for 20-30 minutes.

Tips for Hosting a Party!

Who doesn't love to go to a party? Now who loves to throw a party? Yes - sometimes being the 'hostess with the mostess' can be a little intimidating. Hopefully these few tips will help you consider the major factors of hosting a party so you'll be more prepared.

 

 

·         Theme

o   You need a general theme for your party. It can be an easy broad theme or you can make it specific. For sake of this post we’ll do Halloween!

·         Food

o   This one is my favorite!! I like to eat – a lot. You can stick with the theme of the party or just have regular food.  You do want to make sure you follow the rule of thumb for food. Always have a fruit, a veggie, something savory, salty, and sweet.

·         Decorations

o   This can be simple or extravagant, but you have to have something. If you’re going the simple route go get an orange plastic tablecloth, black plates and napkins and orange cups. Simple and theme appropriate!

·         White noise

o   Plan to have some music on in the background (a fun or spooky Halloween playlist, perhaps?) or maybe turn on a classic Halloween movie with a low volume. This helps cut out the chance for any awkward silence situations.

·         Activities

o   Are you going to have any games at your party? If not it’s okay, but you’ll want to run through them to make sure that a) you have everything and b) they’ll run the way you want them to.

·         Mingle

o   Make sure you mingle at your party and make your guests feel welcome!

·         Clean up

o   The worst part! But make it easy on yourself by using paper plates, plastic cups and so on. A few trash bags later and you’re all done!
