Hey y’all! So right now in Tennessee it’s snowing one day and 65
degrees the next! Crazy! But most of the time it is cold, so today I’m
going to share with you a handful of tips to help keep those electric bills low!
Let’s start with the basics (if you’re anything like me as you
read this next part you are going to hear your dad). Turn off anything you aren’t
using – TV, lights, etc. If it is a
sunny day, then just open the blinds and don’t use the lights.
Next, turn your thermostat up or down by just two – three degrees.
It is such a slight change that you won’t notice, but your bill will! We keep
our thermostat on 68-69 in the winter time. BONUS: if you have a programmable
thermostat have it warmer/cooler in the house during the day when you aren’t
there.
This one is my favorite and it makes me cook more in the winter
so it is a win-win. After you pull dinner out of the oven, leave the door
cracked. Let that 350 degrees of heat you just paid for pour out into your
house!
Finally, wash your clothes in cold water. The less water you
have to heat the less expensive your bill! I still like to wash my towels in
hot water, but everything else is set on cold. It is also better for your clothes so another win-win!
What’s your favorite energy saving tip? I’d love to hear about
it in the comments!
