SHE: KEEPS IT BRIGHT

Monday, June 6, 2016

Hey Y'all,

Don't you just love pretty bright colored clothes? I sure do ~ pretty pinks and greens and blues oh my! They look so cute the first few times you wear them. But after just a couple of washes you start to notice that those colors are not quite as bright and pretty as before.  Or worse (well almost as bad), when those bright colors "bleed" on to something else in the washer. Ugh! So frustrating.  Today I have a tip to share that helps "set" the color to prevent the colors from fading or running onto other clothes in the washer.

Before washing your new item soak it in your kitchen sink (or laundry sink if you have one). Fill the sink with 1 gallon white vinegar and enough water to allow clothes to be completely submerged in the water. Let the items soak for 2-3 hours (overnight is even better).

If you don't have white vinegar on hand, you can also use table salt.  Same process: fill sink completely with water then add 1/2 c. table salt, stir it around to dissolve salt, then add your clothes and completely submerge them.  Soak 2-3 hours again before washing as normal. Then wash as recommended, typically in cold water, and I hang most things to avoid the harsh dryer heat which can add to the fade factor in fabrics... that's a little bit of a tongue twister.

Either option will really help keep the colors bright and is great for multi colored fabrics/ prints too.

So, don't be afraid of picking out some bright colored items for your summer wardrobe.

You've got this!

xoxo,
Amy
